Dan Friday
Dan Friday, a Lummi Nation member and glass artist based in Seattle, brings over two decades of experience working with renowned artists like Dale Chihuly, Paul Marioni, and Preston Singletary. He has shared his knowledge at the Pilchuck School of Glass and undertook residencies at notable institutions like the Museum of Glass in Tacoma, WA, and the Dream Community in Tai Pei, Taiwan. His artistic prowess earned him recognition through the 2020 Artist Trust and Discovery Fellowship via the Southwestern Association for Indian Arts. Dan's creations grace galleries nationwide. He describes his work as a fusion of simple themes and forms, often employing subtle silhouettes to craft his totems, which imbue inanimate objects with life. His more narrative pieces serve as personal expressions or reflections on life events, underpinned by profound statements. When he first encountered glass blowing, it was a transformative moment, leading him to realize his lifelong calling. His journey from a rebellious and misguided youth to an accomplished glass artist highlights the transformative power of art in one's life. Living as an artist might not directly save the world. Still, it offers a path to self-discovery and, in turn, contributes to making the world a better place. Visit Seattle featured Dan Friday as one of three influential glass artists in their State of Glass series.
