Sketching is such a lovely practice! Sketching is loose and quick, and it allows us to accept imperfection and embrace chance! Whether you keep a sketchbook, a garden, or nature journal, or want to create a quick impression on loose paper, watercolor can be a great choice for capturing the vibrant beauty of flowers!
The same properties that make watercolor so wonderful also make it a bit challenging! In this workshop, you will begin to develop a “feel” for watercolor and how to encourage the medium to paint for you! Simple exercises make color-mixing, value control, and brush-handling easy!
Next, we will practice seeing the simple shapes of flowers and applying our watercolor skills to create beautiful, loose sketches of the natural world. We will use value and color intensity to create a sense of light, shadow, and form in our flowers and see how using negative space can give our sketches a bit more pizazz!
It will be a wonderful day of sketching fragrant spring flowers in watercolor!

Teaching artist Kathleen Moore is an experienced painting and drawing instructor who loves to encourage people to relax and enjoy painting and drawing. She teaches at various locations including Gage Academy of Art, Seattle, Cole Gallery, Edmonds, and Cascadia Art Museum, Edmonds.

How to Register for a Class

MoNA’s Class Cancellation Policy
If MoNA cancels the class, the student has two options:
100% Non-transferable refund
Generously choose to donate the full amount to support MoNA's Education Programs. The student will receive a letter acknowledging their donation for tax purposes.
If the student decides to cancel the class, they have the following options based on timing of cancellation:
Cancels seven days or more before class:
The student has the option of 100% non-transferable refund or can generously choose to donate the full amount to support MoNA's Education Programs. The student will receive a letter acknowledging their donation for tax purposes.
Cancels less than seven days before the class or a no show:
The student is not eligible for a refund. These funds will be considered a generous donation to support MoNA's Education Programs and the student will receive a letter acknowledging their donation for tax purposes.

The facility is wheelchair accessible and an elevator is available in the back of the building

Limited seating is provided throughout the galleries and studio space
Restrooms are available on both floors of the museum. Changing tables are available in the restrooms on the 2nd floor and an all-gender restroom is available on the 1st floor of the museum
