Exhibition Walkthrough & Portfolio Review w/ Curator Matthew Kangas

The Museum is hosting an exhibition walkthrough and artist portfolio review with curator Matthew Kangas on Saturday, September 10 from 2pm - 4pm. This is a fantastic opportunity to learn more and ask questions about our upcoming exhibition, "Arreguín: Painter from the New World" and have a known and respected art critic review your portfolio with you!

Portfolio Review Details and Guidelines:

  • Matthew Kangas will comment and make suggestions for promotion, studio changes, new ideas, confirmation of old ideas or suggestions about future directions.

  • Approximately 10-15 minutes of review per artist.

  • Portfolios can be presented in the form of a laptop with photos, a physical portfolio with unframed works on paper, or a videotape to be played on the artist’s laptop.

  • Artists must be 18 years of age or older.

  • Reviews will occur on a first-come, first-served basis after the exhibition walkthrough.

About Matthew Kangas

Arreguín: Painter from the New World is curated by Matthew Kangas. Kangas, widely known as an art critic, has also flourished as an exhibition juror and curator. As curator he has organized retrospectives of Northwest artists such as Maria Frank Abrams, Jacqueline Barnett, William Cumming, Mary Henry, Michael Lawson and Robert Sperry, among others. As a juror, he has awarded prizes in South Korea, Texas, Kansas, Oklahoma, Washington, and elsewhere. He lives in Seattle. Midmarch Arts Press, New York, has published four collections of his essays, interviews, and reviews.
