About Laura Parker:

Laura, originally from Louisville, Kentucky, received a Bachelor's in Fine Arts from the University of Denver in 2001. She spent four years living in New York City where she worked for art non-profits including the Art Directors Club, Children’s Museum of Art, and HOWL! Festival. In 2005, Laura moved back to Kentucky to focus on her art career and began an experimental art project called Meet-A-Stranger. In 2007, she wrote and performed a piece, based on Meet-A-Stranger, at Actors Theatre of Louisville. Laura also received a NOW ARTS Grant for the project through Oregon-based performance artist, Damali Ayo, which provided mentorship by Portland NPR Co-Host April Baer. Laura is co-founder of The Kentucky Girlhood Project, a multi-discipline art and performance festival celebrating contemporary female artists across the state of Kentucky. Her work has been exhibited in several cities and is included in the 21C Museum Hotel permanent collection. Laura has taught oil painting through Jefferson County Community College continuing education program in Louisville, KY, Open Art Studios in Tacoma, WA, and privately from her home studio. In recent years, Laura has taken her life-long love for painting to create commissioned water miscible oil portraits of people and pets. Laura moved to La Conner, WA in 2015. She and her two children, Faith and Cutter, consider it home.
