MoNA announces the winners of the first MoNA Luminaries Northwest Artist Awards, named in honor of those who have left a lasting impact on our region, and given to four artists of promise as chosen by a distinguished nominating panel and jury.
 
Joel Brock Award for Emerging Artists: Sara Siestreem
Barbara and Clayton James Award for Mid-Career Artists: Whiting Tennis
Philip McCracken Award for Sculpture: Mel Katz
Mary Randlett Award for Photography: Holly Andres
 
Each of the winning artists receive $1,000, an exhibition at MoNA and digital catalog.
 
The nominators were Stefano Catalani, Director of Art, Craft, & Design of the Bellevue Arts Museum; John Olbrantz, the Maribeth Collins Director of the Hallie Ford Museum of Art; and Kathleen Ash-Milby, Associate Curator of the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian. Catharina Manchanda, Jon and Mary Shirley Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art of the Seattle Art Museum, was the juror.
 
Through the creation of a philanthropy award, MoNA and the Skagit Symphony also recognize Jacqueline Stegner for her significant contributions to art education. She has helped launch the symphony’s education program as well as the MoNA Link program, and has supported both to serve a growing number of students in the community.
